Dear Colleagues,
I am happy to announce the release of the new scoring of my major work, "Principles", for chorus, band, and solo baritone voice. This significant piece has been rescored to work with both smaller choruses (~50-80+ voices) and larger ones (100 and up), by judicious application of optional doubling passages. (It can also be performed with piano, or piano with percussion.)
"Principles" is a powerful half-hour secular oratorio on themes of liberty, social justice, and religious freedom from texts of Thomas Jefferson. These include the revelatory Statute of Virginia for Religious Freedom and the Declaration of Independence, plus his mottos, epitaph, and quotes from two late letters.
Tonal modern/populist in style, tuneful, rhythmic, singable, stirring, "thinking person's patriotic," the work has strong listener impact, and a big inspiring ending—a final peroration on "All Eyes are Opening to the Rights of Man." This is a rousing, major statement, with texts for our times. Excerpts are also possible (Declaration movement; Finale)
I publish it inexpensively in .pdf, and I offer an educational discount.
If you have been wanting to collaborate with a band at your school or in your community, this piece could be an excellent vehicle for you. The vocal writing is accessible for a strong auditioned community chorus or collegiate choir. The finale can be mastered even by a strong large high school choir or combined honor choir.
To make it easy for you to review and evaluate this piece, I have posted the following materials on my website atwww.davidavshalomov.com
Please let me know if this work might be of interest to you for next season or after, and feel free to contact me with any questions about the piece.
Best regards,
David Avshalomov, D. M. A.
