FORT LAUDERDALE (December 20, 2014) – The Girl Choir of South Florida (GCSF) is pleased to announce the release of its newest album, Carols and Lullabies, featuring works for chorus and harp. The album includes the GCSF’s premier Concert Choir and Chamber Singers ensembles performing A Ceremony of Carols by Benjamin Britten, Poem of Light by John Rommereim, and Carols and Lullabies: Christmas in the Southwest by Conrad Susa.
The album is available on CD and through digital download at:
Susa’s Christmas in the Southwest was specifically commissioned to be performed as a companion piece for Britten’s A Ceremony of Carols, and this album unites these two holiday favorites with Rommereim’s beautiful arrangement of an ancient Hebrew text in Poem of Light.
The music on the album was conducted by GCSF Artistic Director Wallis Peterson, with accompaniment by Charlene Conner on harp, Gayle Giese on keyboard, and Mindy Lofgren on guitar. The recording was made at All Saints Episcopal Church in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in December 2013.
The Girl Choir of South Florida transforms girls’ lives through musical excellence. The Girl Choir is the region’s premier singing ensemble for girls and young women ages 6 through 18 and has been extolled by the South Florida Sun-Sentinel as “imaginative, accessible, expressive, and entertaining.” The Girl Choir’s repertoire is broad, from ancient to modern, classical to popular, sacred to secular, and folk to Broadway, encompassing many cultures, faiths, and traditions. The Girl Choir regularly presents concerts at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts and as part of many concert series throughout South Florida, and its multi-level program of ensembles gives each chorister sight-reading, ear training, and vocal production skills while developing artistry and teamwork.
Open auditions for new members are held in June, August, and January, and all girls ages 6 through 13 are welcome to audition. For an audition schedule or more information about The Girl Choir of South Florida, please call (954) 533-9227, send email to info@girlchoir.org, or go online to http://www.girlchoir.org.
